Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
