Devastating Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of fatalities from the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and plummeted has now risen to 13, per recent reports.

Official's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the plane crash,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My prayers are with the loved ones, companions and co-workers of all who were killed in this recent disaster. We will get through this collectively.”

Casualties Named

A statement from UPS named the officers on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to each employee who has been impacted and all in our local region – assisting you and ensuring you obtain the support and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s communication read.

Investigation Details

Federal authorities announced that the jet’s wing burst into flames and an engine fell off soon after departure from the airfield, leading to the jet to crash and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB has said it is investigating the aircraft’s maintenance history, that was in the state for fixes several weeks prior to the incident.

Aviation information revealed the aircraft was on the tarmac in that location from 3 September to last week.

“We are cognizant that this plane was present in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on later, without a precise date range. “We will examine all elements of repairs that was done, including the San Antonio visit, all the way to the date of the flight.”

Findings of Key Items

The audio device and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.

The units – known as flight recorders – were built to endure accident forces and intense heat from infernos, and they appeared to be intact when located within the wreckage. Officials plan on reviewing recordings from the black boxes.

Jet’s last data recordings showed an elevation of that level and a velocity of 210 mph prior to the crash.

Service Background

Based on FAA documents dated 18 September, a crack on a structural piece within the fuel container needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it provides aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and manages a maintenance center in Texas, chose not to comment, but stated it would assist completely when officials approached it.

Activities Restart

In the meantime, the facility operations resumed last night with its overnight also known as night sort process, spokesperson the company official said. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were also back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the company’s most significant. The center engages over 20,000 individuals in the area, processes three hundred flights per day and processes over four hundred thousand packages an hour.

Local Reaction

A candlelight vigil was organized on the night of that date by the local Teamsters Union, which represents employees at the Louisville airport, the company’s biggest shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for staff, began the memorial with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate time of the crash two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official told the assembly of attendees. “No one had a moment to part to each of those who we have mourned.”
